Fall update from our SC Assembly President

Dear Sisters in Christ,

An extraordinary fall is upon us and a season of grateful thanksgiving. The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina is thankful for the consecration of their Bishop, The Right Reverend Ruth Morse Woodliff-Stanley, the first female Bishop in the history of the Diocese of South Carolina. The Anglican Diocese of South Carolina gives thanks for the election of the Very Reverend Chip Edgar as their Co-adjuter and Bishop-elect.

We were blessed with a glorious day at Camp Saint Christopher for our in-person annual Fall Assembly and Installation of Assembly Officers. It was such a joy to see all those smiling faces. And then there was our Provincial Fall Retreat, in person and virtual, at Kanuga. Five days of dismal rain did not dampen our spirits as we shared God's word from Fr. Terrence Lee (a former South Carolina priest now serving in New York City) on hope, joy and peace (Romans 15:13). The time was enhanced with meditations and Bible studies led by our Chaplain, Bishop Glenda Curry, and the Rev'd Shirley Porter. God is good -- all the time!!

Many of you have elected new Chapter Officers. Congratulations to the new officers and thank you for your willingness to serve. You are important links to your Chapter daughters from the Assembly, Province and National office. Please be sure to submit a Chapter Officer Form (available at www.doknational.org) to both the National office and me. Would you also indicate your chapter meeting times and officer installation date. It is my intent to visit every chapter throughout my term. If you have pictures of any of your activities, please send them to our 2nd VP Dawn Schaeperkoetter (dleeinsc@gmail.com) who will be publishing our "Assembly Lights" and Janet Stoda (jb.stoda@gmail.com) our webmaster. It is also time to remind and encourage your Daughters to pay their dues. If financial issues are a problem, please let us know as assistance is available. There is also assistance for Daughters at Large if this is an issue (please contact our DAL Chair Jen jengajdalo@aol.com or me).

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
We have some events coming up in the New Year that I pray you all will consider.

What a glorious day we had a Camp St Christopher for our annual Fall Assembly and Installation of Officers. For those of you who were with us, a huge thank you. It was so wonderful to see smiling faces. For those not able to attend I want to bring you up to date on what transpired so that you may share with your Chapter members.

The day began with our annual business meeting. Treasurer Bonnie Knight presented the financial reports and the proposed budget which had been adopted by the Advisory Board.

Regional Meetings (calendar here) will be at Trinity Edisto Beach and St Paul's Conway.

Our delegates for the Kanuga Province IV meeting will be Brenda Albringer, Dawn Schaeperkoetter, Kester Heaton and Darla Wier.

Our Love Offering for the day was split between Camp St Christopher and Gateways of Grace (a missionary group serving refugees). If you have elected new officers, please submit Officer Form to both the Assembly and the National Office.

Please encourage those Daughters who are not current with their dues to bring themselves up to date.

We are still seeking suggestions for our Assembly Project. The project would be an active involvement in the organization for volunteer opportunities over and above monetary/material donations. Suggestions have included the Magdalene House in Summervile (a transition house for woman), the Florence Crittendon Home (home for unwed mothers) in Charleston, St Alban's Women's Ministry at The Citadel and the Charleston Hispanic Organization. A suggestion was made we consider more than one organization that would reflect the diverse areas of our Assembly. We welcome your suggestions and the Advisory Board will make a recommendation at the December Board meeting.

The day concluded with a very meaningful message from the Rev'd Bob Lawrence (Ex Directory of Camp St Christopher) at our Eucharist and Installation of Officers lead by the Very Rev'd Peet Dicksinson. We were blessed.

Thinking about Triennial - Baltimore, MD, June 29 - July 3. A wonderful experience and well worth the time. Check it out on the National Website doknational.org

We pray for you always and welcome your input.

August update from Kester

My dear Sisters in Christ,

It hardly seems possible that summer is fleeting by so quickly but it soon will be time for our annual fall retreat at Kanuga. As might be expected there are some changes in the way we navigate the waters. First, you must be registered by the end of August. Registration is available on the Province website at www.provinceIV-dok.org Second, the Inn (or Lodge) rooms will not be available for our use. The only accommodations will be in the cabins. Although a bit different, it promises to be a spirit-filled retreat and I look forward to sharing this time with you.

AND -- don't forget to register for our Fall Assembly to be held at Camp St. Christopher on Saturday, September 11th. Our speaker is the Rev'd Robert Lawrence. Registration is available at www.doksc.org

Easter Greetings

My dear Sisters in Christ,

Alleluia.  The Lord is Risen.  He is Risen indeed.   Alleluia!

It is Eastertide and we have so much for which to be thankful.   I pray you had a peaceful, penitential Lent and a blessed Easter Sunday, are enjoying the great days of Eastertide and this glorious spring.

It has been a difficult year with THE virus.  Isolation, separation, missing fellowship in our chapter meetings and church services, and family togetherness just to mention a few.  My prayer is most of us have now been vaccinated and we can move on to more “together” time as we continue to respect pandemic mandates.  I, personally, look forward to our time together at Camp St Christopher on September 11th for our annual Fall Assembly.  Our preacher will be the Rev’d Robert Lawrence, Executive Director of Camp St. Christopher.   How glorious it will be to be together once again.

In the meantime, we do have a wonderful zoom event right around the corner.  The Jubilee Evening is a Provincial event (in place of our Triennial Dinner) to celebrate the service and ministry of our President Jane Searcy and our Chaplain Bishop William “Bill” Skilton.  JUNE 26th on Zoom!  Mark your calendars and be there!!  There is no charge for this event but you will have to go online to register.  A link will be available on our Assembly website www.doksc.org or the Province website www.  This is a great opportunity to participate in a Triennial event for those of you who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend Triennial.  AND, our very own Kathy House will be installed as DOK Provincial President.  Let’s all be there!

Please continue to be safe and healthy, prayer for each other and remember,

For His Sake,

I am but one, but I am one.

I cannot do everything, but I can do something.

What I can do, I ought to do.

What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.

Lord, what would you have me do?

FHS,

Kester Heaton

Reminder to register for Regional meetings

My dear Sisters in Christ,

Time is rapidly approaching for the first of our Regional Meetings. There will be three meetings: January 30 (for members in the southern part of our Assembly), February 13th (middle part of our Assembly), and February 27th (northern part of our Assembly). In this manner, we will be able to fellowship with those Daughters in closer proximity to each other and be inclusive of our Daughters-at-Large. I realize the particular Saturday meeting for your area may not be convenient in which case I would encourage you to attend any meeting that works in to your schedule. We want as much participation as possible and this is your time to share your successes and concerns with others. Meetings will begin at 9:30 am with a time of fellowship followed by a devotion and prayer with Chaplain Janet Echols. There will be a short time for the business of the Assembly and the remainder of the meeting will be a time for sharing. It is my hope the meetings will conclude by lunch time.

As this is a Zoom format, registration will be necessary to protect the security and integrity of the gatherings.  Please register online at our Assembly website, www.doksc.org  Once you are registered you will receive an email with the sign-in information for your particular session.

I pray you are all well and safe.  I look forward to sharing time with each of you.

FHS,

Kester Heaton

In closing I leave you with this anonymous piece I saw on the internet that sums up our lives quite nicely.  Ladies (and gentlemen); Welcome aboard Flight #2021. We are preparing for an on-time departure into the New Year. Please make sure your Attitude and Actions are secured and locked in an upbeat & right position. All self-destructive thoughts should be turned off at this time and remain off forever. Any negativity, hate and discouragement must remain completely stowed. In the likely event we lose Altitude while under pressure, simply reach up and pull down a Prayer. Prayers will automatically activate if you have Faith. With this Faith you will be able to assist other passengers. There will be NO BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. The Captain (GOD of course) has cleared us for takeoff. Our first destination is Love with continuing stops at Peace and Joy. Before you deplane make sure you don’t leave any of your Hopes and Dreams behind. Once these are lost, they can not be reclaimed. If there’s anything we can do to make your flight more enjoyable, please do the same by paying it forward. We wish you a pleasant flight! Have a Happy New Year!!! Let’s put 2020 behind us!!!! Make It a Better 2021!
